PAUL D. SOLOVAY
Paul D. Solovay spent 30 years as a top creative talent in advertising, creating many award-winning commercials. His Pepsi commercial
“Bringing Home Baby” is in the Smithsonian Museum and the Broadcast Museum in NYC.
Paul first picked up a still camera when he was 19 and won a juried 1 st prize with his first roll of exposed film. He went on to study
filmmaking at NYU and The Brooklyn College Television Center. His photos have been used for tourist boards, airlines and businesses.
This show features his unique music technique; The Active Camera.  Paul first utilized this technique in 1979 during a visit to Preservation
Hall, a famed jazz venue in New Orleans. That photo, as well as others, are in the homes of private collectors. “The Active Camera” means Paul and the camera are constantly in motion - as he translates musical sound waves into light waves --images that capture the high energy of performance. It's a visual tour de force. You can almost hear the photographs This technique is all done in-camera, live. No AI or Photoshop is used.
Paul has been in the juried show at the Hudson Opera House three successive years. He was the featured artist at numerous galleries in NY, MA, and Florida. He was chosen to do a featured artwork for a Holocaust dedication program. He was commissioned to photograph the Junkanoo Celebration by the National Gallery of the Bahamas in his “Active Camera” style. Paul was an Official Photographer for the NYC Halloween Parade using that same technique, and photographed Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans. He has also been a featured
guest artist at the 14th Street Gallery in Vero Beach, FL.
