ANNE LEVITT
I fell in love with art early in life. My family and many teachers encouraged me to follow that love, resulting in many years of painting, pottery, and other forms of creative expression. I attended an art high school, and went on to study art in college as well, yet life took off in other directions: a career in healthcare, travelling, and raising a family. I always managed to make room for art, but only when the pandemic kept us home was I able to refocus on painting. My preferred mediums are watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and all types of mark making tools, pencils and crayons for use on canvas, paper or board.
My painting style is not realistic but not abstract either. I use paint to express feelings and impressions of a subject that has captured me over the past few years, the sacred presence of Nature. Standing in the wind, noticing the interplay and conversations between light and air, clouds and mountains, the sway of grasses and presence of water…these are what inspire me. In some ways, my paintings are offered as reminders to us all of a deep Presence that still is here, bursting out through the many elements of the natural world.
