LIONEL DELEVINGNE
Delevingne is 510 Warren Street’s newest collective member. He is a well-known, French-born
photojournalist, and settled in the U.S. in 1975 to document the struggles of the environmental
movement, collaborating with many domestic and foreign publications including Mother Jones, New
Age, In these Times, The New York Times, Die Zeit, and Le Sauvage/Nouvel L’Obs.
Delevingne has lectured and exhibited widely throughout the U.S. and abroad and has authored
four books including: To the Village Square, from Montague to Fukushima 1975 – 2014 and
Drylands: A Rural American Saga.

Lionel Delevingne has created a series of 16
photographic abstractions, entitled, “X – I N G”. Each photograph is
printed on glossy archival aluminum panels, each 12 by 12 inches.

“In the not-so-distant past, I pursued “reality” rendering a visual explanation which often
called for action. Now, numbed by what is happening in the “real” world, I feel the need to
probe beyond it, deconstruct it, and recreate a world independent of opinion or judgment. I
am finding beauty, renewal and hope in this process. As for my X-rated series, X is no longer a
symbol of “Stop/Don’t Go” but, instead, “X Marks the Spot”— the spot where we dig in and
explore beyond, open to new information, open to changing our minds.
Travel with me… Let’s go X – I N G!”
