Charles Benton has been making art full time for about four years now. His career was in fashion design, but his true passion was always art and illustration. He studied art at The Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and later at Central Saint Martins in London. During his London years, Charles developed a deeper fascination with Surrealism which came to the fore in the work of Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Man Ray and Pablo Picasso. Another great influence on his work are the insightful, mysterious and dark masterpieces of Audrey Beardsley.
Charles has experimented with various mediums such as acrylics, oil paint, colored pencils, watercolor and most recently pottery. The subject is consistent and has come to life out of the strong urge to combine his years of experience in the glamorous world of fashion and his illustration skills. Charles recently moved from California to Woodstock where he currently lives and works.
